Furniture Medic by MasterCare Experts Fabricates Custom Kitchen Island
The kitchen is the heart of the home. Meals are prepared in the kitchen and families also tend to share their meals in this space. It is important for the kitchen to be designed and set up to the homeowner’s liking to ensure that it can be used efficiently. Unfortunately, there is also a risk of water damage occurring in the kitchen if there are issues with the plumbing. Significant water damage can destroy kitchen furniture made from wood and other porous materials.
At Furniture Medic by MasterCare Experts, we recently had an insurance adjustor reach out to us to fabricate a custom kitchen island for their client. Their client experienced significant water damage in their kitchen that damaged their custom kitchen island beyond repair. The entire island was removed from the kitchen by a restoration company. When our experts were called to fabricate a new kitchen island, all that was left from the old one was the outline of it marked with tape on the floor as you can see in the before picture. Our experts accepted the challenge of recreating a kitchen island with only the dimensions of the previous island to work with.

With this project, our experts at Furniture Medic by MasterCare Experts were tasked with creating something from nothing. We got to work gathering materials and planning for a kitchen island to match the footprint of the previous island. The new kitchen island not only had to fit the dimensions of the previous island to maximize the space, but it also had to accommodate a stovetop. We worked with the customer to choose the materials and paint color so that the new kitchen island would match the décor.
Once the materials were chosen for the new kitchen island, our professionals got to work fabricating the materials to build the island to the exact dimensions of the previous island. The wood pieces were cut to custom sizes to fit the dimensions mapped out on the floor and they were painted and finished with the color chosen by the customer. Only one of the cabinets used was a stock size and the rest had to be fabricated in custom sizes to fit the exact angles of the space. The new cabinets allowed for adequate storage space and housed the gas hookups for the stovetop.
As you can see in the after picture, the finished product fits the space perfectly and the design works well with the rest of the kitchen. The customer was thrilled with the new fabricated kitchen island.
Color Matching for Wood Furniture
When fabricating the wood pieces for the cabinets, we also had to paint and finish them before assembling them into the kitchen island. We worked with the customer to choose the color or stain and finish for the new island. Through our color matching services, we can match a wood stain or paint color to restore the original appearance of wood furniture or apply a new stain or color to change its appearance. We offer many different wood stains and paint colors that customers can choose from for their projects.
As you can see in the after picture, the customer chose a dark blue color that makes it stand out in their kitchen. It is clear that this newly fabricated kitchen island is the centerpiece of the space.

Kitchen cabinets are important because of the storage space they provide and the effect they have on the kitchen design. However, because they are used every day, they are subject to damage and wear and tear. In some cases, such as the case with this customer, cabinets can also be damaged by water.
In the scenario with the kitchen island, the water caused so much damage that the entire island had to be removed and replaced. In other instances, damaged cabinet doors and drawer fronts can be replaced without removing the cabinet boxes, furniture, or frames that they are attached to.
